mmmm... wedding food

this weekend we're going to sample the wedding food from our caterer, Berries.

Berries is hosting this informal "tasting" on Saurday. Other couples will be there, too..not sure how many.

We're still finalizing the menu...so far we've chosen spinach lasagna and southern friend chicken for the main entrees...and we'll probably add a third entree, something more traditional, like roast turkey.

We'll see what tastes good..stay tuned...

Today we drove up to Salem and had our pictures taken by Scott Lanes. I will post some pics in the near future.I'm also going to send our photo & engagement/wedding announcemnt to the Boston Globe, NYT, and Bay Windows.

In other weddin'-planning news, Lauralee sketched out what her wedding dress will look like...she came up with an amazing idea that looks fashionable, elegant, and slightly mod...I've never seen anything like it. She's a trendsetter...

OK, so we plan to get married at the Arnold Arboretum on saturday, July 22. The we're going to have a kickass reception at the Hibernian Hall In Roxbury.

still figuring out the catering...

...and my tux arrived in the mail today....

and it fits perfectly :)

We've been brainstorming about our wedding day attire. We'd like to do something different than the usual white dress/black tux outfits.

So here's what we envision: I'll wear a white tux and LL will wear a little black dress.

our wedding date is tentatively scheduled for Saturday July 15th.

....we're still waiting to nail down the exact site for our reception.

LL suggested that we have a few days of activities planned, since some of our guests live out of town and may be here for a few days....some ideas we're tossing around:

...roller skating at Chez Vous

...visit to Walden Pond or Boston Harbor Islands

...go bowling / shoot pool

... brunch at our house on Sunday

My mom rocks. She's been doing mad research for us, and wrote up lists of potential sites for us to check out.

Lauralee and I have been making phone calls, checking the prices....

and I've found two other places that look really good.

Hopefully they'll be available...

Where to have the reception....hmmm.

LL and I have decided to have our wedding ceremony in the Arnold Arboretum, a beautiful outdoor venue that happens to be owned by LL's alma mater.....

My mom got married there last summer, in a little spot set away from the walking paths. Lauralee and I will exchange vows there next July.

The big question is....where to have our reception. I've been researching this for months.......and every place -- everywhere -- is so $#@* expensive! My friends were joking that we should have the reception in the Arboretum....after all, we used to have keg parties in there during high school. But alas, that is totally illegal, so as mature adults we'll likely carry on our wedding celebration elsewhere.

One possible place we were looking at is Artists For Humanity Epicenter. They have a new space in Southie that looks pretty cool....and more importnant, it's a cool nonprofit organization that helps teens get hooked up with art gigs. The Epicenter has a warehouse-y feel and there's art hanging all over the walls.

It would be nice to have a reception in a venue like that - an art gallery, museum, rollerskating rink, whatever -- someplace where there'd be stuff for the guests to look at, or something for them to do besides the run-o'-the-mill dancing, drinking and eating. (and there will be plenty of that, don't worry.)
